You are so sweet and delicious,
If someone tries to make me share you, I get downright vicious,
When you are in season, I jump for joy,
But your season is so short, it seems like an evil ploy.
It’s the first of June. Do ya’ll know what that means?! If you guessed the beginning of peach season, you are correct! I love peaches SO MUCH! I had my very first peach of the summer today and it was heaven. It’s true that peach season ends around the beginning of September, leaving only about three good months of sweet perfection. I make a point to purchase and consume peaches with every trip to the grocery store or farmer’s market.
I thought it would be appropriate to list some health benefits of peaches in honor of the beginning of peach season:
Much like tomatoes, peaches contain lycopene and lutein, which helps prevent heart disease, muscular degeneration and cancer
Peaches also have lots of potassium, which supports pretty much all of cell functions, tissues and organs
They also provide natural sugars and as a somewhat “watery” fruit, they act as a good source of electrolytes
Peaches are packed with vitamin C, increasing immunity
Eat the skin! Most of the above mentioned benefits come from the fuzzy stuff
Not to mention, peaches are low in calories, so you can eat a bunch of em. Do it!
Random question of the day: My favorite fruit is obviously the peach. What’s your favorite seasonal fruit?
